As the central and defining characteristic of the face, the nose has a dramatic impact on the way we look. Even the slightest alteration in the size and shape of the nose can greatly enhance appearance. With rhinoplasty (nose job), Dr. Kienstra strives to create a nose that is natural and proportioned to fit your face. The nose should never detract from the face or become a focal point. Dr. Kienstra plans each rhinoplasty procedure individually; it’s a unique operation every time. All rhinoplasty procedures are performed under the strictest safety standards at our private Missouri facility.

Understanding Rhinoplasty Surgery

There are multiple approaches to reshaping the nose during rhinoplasty (nose job). In certain cases Dr. Kienstra uses an open rhinoplasty where in addition to the internal incisions, he makes a small incision in the skin separating the nostrils (columella). In closed rhinoplasty all incisions are made inside the nose. In both procedures the skin is lifted and nasal cartilage and bone are manipulated to create a well-defined, proportionate shape. In some cases, cartilage grafts are added to help reshape and strengthen the nasal framework.

During Rhinoplasty Surgery

The rhinoplasty procedure (nose job) is performed in our Springfield, MO, surgery center. General anesthesia or deep sedation are used to keep the patient comfortable. We use board-certified anesthesiologists to administer anesthesia because your safety is our top priority.

What should I expect after rhinoplasty surgery?

Following rhinoplasty (nose job), it is important to protect and stabilize the new nose structure. To this end, Dr. Kienstra may place a  splint on the outside of your nose immediately after surgery that will be worn for one week. No packing is used in the nose.

One week after your rhinoplasty procedure, your surgeon will remove your splints. It is important that you follow your surgeon’s directions, especially instructions to keep your head elevated and to refrain from blowing your nose following surgery.

What is revision rhinoplasty?

Dr. Kienstra is often called upon to reshape noses that have been previously operated on. Revision rhinoplasty is a more difficult and complex procedure and requires special skills. His specialized training in Facial Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology combined with the high volume of rhinoplasties he performs, make Dr. Kienstra highly sought after for correction of the difficult nose.
